Max Payne 2 Start Up Error “Fix” (Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10)
This guide is for all of those who are not able to start the game up.
Intro & my PC Specs
Hello guys, here is an easy guide on how to fix Max Payne 2. I tried a few of the fixes available on the Internet but none of those worked. So after a little research and work I found a very easy way to fix this game.
O.S: Windows 10 Pro 64 bits
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7970 3GB
CPU: AMD FX 6300 BLACK EDITION
RAM: 8GB DDR3
The error that I was getting
I tried to open up the game and Steam said that I was playing but the game launcher wasn’t popping up so I had to close down the game with Task Manager.
Fix
Step 1 : Download the game via Steam.
Step 2 : Go to the game directory (e.g. “C:Program Files (x86)Steamsteamappscommon”).
Step 3 : Right click the “maxpayne2.exe” then go to Properties/Compatibility tab/select Run this program in Compatibility mode for: choose “Windows 98 / Windows ME” and then go to “Privilege Level” and enable “Run this program as an administrator” then click apply and OK.
Step 4 : Now remove the spaces from the game folder’s name, (e.g. change “SteamAppsCommonMax Payne 2 The Fall of Max Payne ” to “SteamAppsCommonMaxPayne2TheFallofMaxPayne”
And it should look like this :
Step 5 : Now close your Steam.
Step 6 : After you do that, edit the appmanifest file with WordPad
(..SteamAppsappmanifest_12150.acf) and change the text after “installdir” to the name of your Max Payne 2 folder ( “MaxPayne2TheFallofMaxPayne” ) and save it.
And it should look like this :
Step 7 : Open your Steam and have fun!
Fix for Max Payne 1
Solution for Max Payne 1 is exactly the same but there is an issue with some of the resolutions.

For the people that are getting this error message “Exception in engineInit:Unable to load save game “Files”. File does not exist or it is not a valid savegame file.”
Go to your Steam Library, right-click on the game and click on “Set Launch Options” and add
“-developer”, click OK and try to open up the game again.

В кои-то веки решил поиграть в какую-нибудь игрушку, и надо же было выбрать Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. Купил лицензионный диск с переизданием от 1С, установил, а она не запускается — висит в процессах и ничего не происходит. На многих форумах, как оказалось, пишут о несовместимости игры с Windows 7.
Возможно я бы и бросил эту затею, если бы случайно не прочитал, про аналогичную проблему, но на Windows XP. Убив порядочно времени на эксперименты с режимами совместимости, установками разных патчей и no-cd, я обнаружил «вредителя» — драйвер видеокарты. После обновления драйверов nVidia Forceware до версии 197.45, Max Payne 2 заработал! Может это решение кому-то поможет и сэкономит время. Ведь игрушка-то классная 🙂
Как запустить max payne 2 на windows 7
Главная проблема запуска Максимки состоит в том, что игра не рассчитана под многоядерный рендеринг процессора, соответственно на всех современных компах exe’шник запускается и тупо висит в процессах не понимая что ему далее делать. Проблема решается довольно просто, без всяких патчей, фиксов и прочей лабуды.
Но для начала нам нужно будет заменить стандартный диспетчер задач Windows 7 на более продвинутый и удобный. Скачиваем его по следующей ссылке [systemexplorer.net] . Устанавливаем, меняем язык на русский, в настройках программы (выбирается в правом верхнем углу, кликаем там на три полоски, либо на кнопку меню, зависит от того как установили) нужно заменить стандартный диспетчер на только что установленный (что бы при вызове диспетчера запускался только новый, а старый уже более не пригодится). Всегда есть возможность проверить файл на Virus Total.
Теперь находим в диспетчере задач (запускается по нажатию клавиш ctrl+shift+esc) в вкладке "процессы" процесс MaxPayne2.exe *32, жмакаем правой кнопкой мыши на нем, в открывшемся меню выбираем "Соответствие процесса ЦП/ядрам" и выбираем там только одно ядро процессора из всех (я выбрал самое первое), не забыть поставить галочку там же на пункте "Запомнить". Теперь нужно перезапустить процесс, либо закрыть его и заново запустить. Все, Максимка готов ностальгировать с вами на новом компе.
